A Short Biography
 
Melissa Dorsey

 
As a theatre maker, Melissa's life has been saturated with the arts. She grew up in the Okanagan and her family was very involved in a local churches and community theatre. She comes from a strong musical background with parents who wore a lot of hats in producing local theatre. Her mom, Julie, was frequently an actor, music director or director for various theatre productions in the community and at church, often writing shows or adapting shows for Christmas and Easter. Her dad, Wade, just celebrated 25 years in the first chair as principal Trombone for the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, often playing for many groups around The Okanagan and touring with his brass quintet Fish On Five. Her brother, Brandon, is currently the technical director at Westside Church in downtown Vancouver, a self-produced singer/songwriter, and has toured with bands as a lighting designer from Vancouver to New York. Her other brother, Noah, is a filmmaker and musician in Lake Country, running his own production company called Ark Films, is on the board for the Okanagan Society Of Independent Filmmakers and has travelled the world filming documentaries in places as far as India.
Calgary has facilitated Melissa's study of music at Rocky Mountain College and acting at The Company of Rogues Actor's Studio. Currently, she is teaching private music lessons, voicing a few cartoons, directing plus sound & light designing at Heritage Park, revising a show with long-time collaborator, creative partner and husband, Trevor Matheson, for them to tour as their company Theatrically Obsessed in the 2021 Fringe circuit. As well she is always touring shows and workshops to schools and festivals across Canada alongside her two colleagues with their company HeARTbeat Theatre Productions: www.heartbeattheatre.com.
Melissa is motivated, passionate, hard working and always striving to grow. She is a great asset on any project she is apart of.
